Under the Spotlight with Sir Geoff Palmer

Sir Geoff has been featured on many news programmes discussing the street names and statues dedicated to historic characters involved with the slave trade. In this session Geoff examines how we might use the global interest in this uncomfortable subject to promote greater diversity, inclusion and racial equality - both in business and wider society.

Sir Geoff is a Professor Emeritus in the School of Life Sciences at Heriot Watt University and a human rights activist. In 1989 he was the first black professor in Scotland and he was knighted in the 2014 New Year Honours. He has authored a book on the history of slavery – The Enlightenment Abolished – Citizens of Britishness.
