Terms and Conditions
Personal, Team Membership and Events
These terms and conditions govern the relationship between You and The Marketing Society, 167-169 Great Portland Street, Fifth Floor, London W1W 5PF. ('The Society’), by applying, or applying on behalf of a prospective Member, or renewing, or renewing an existing subscription, You agree to these terms and conditions.
Where You apply, or subscribe as an Individual, they are binding upon you personally and where You apply on behalf of one or more individuals as a corporate entity, these terms are directly binding on that corporate entity and You shall ensure that those individuals comply with these terms.
1. Applications
1.1 You acknowledge that the Society has sole discretion whether to admit a Member, and shall do so in accordance with governing documents, and policies.
1.2 Where a joining fee is payable, it will be at the rate set out for new joiners.
1.3 In the Event that You are not admitted to Society, you shall have no claim against the Society for losses however sustained.
2. Membership Benefits
2.1 Membership entitles You to access The Marketing Society services and resources dependent on the level of subscription.
2.2 You must use all of your Membership benefits in Your Membership term and You cannot carry over any unused benefits to a new term.
2.3 You acknowledge that your Membership will automatically renew each year, unless you notify the Society in advance. Should You cease to be a Member, or cease to use your Membership benefits before the end of your term, You acknowledge that You will not be eligible for any refund for the remainder of your term.
3. Membership Fees
3.1 You shall be required to Pay the Membership Fees on joining and each annual anniversary of your Membership, or in the event of multi-year Membership, the end of that term and you agree that such sums can be collected by direct debit, Stripe, or such other reoccurring fee mechanism, where applicable.
3.2 Should You fail to renew your Membership on time, You will be liable to pay a rejoining fee, this will be the joining fee or if no joining fee is specified for the region then a rate of £100 for Personal Membership or £500 for Team Membership (or equivalent currency).
3.3 You acknowledge that Your access to Membership benefits will cease immediately, if Your Membership Fees are not paid in full by the renewal date. No grace period shall apply.
3.4. The Society Reserves the Right to alter any pricing of the Membership Fees.
4. Membership Transfers
4.1 Where You have a Personal Membership, Your Membership is non-transferable.
4.2 Where You have a Team Membership, You may transfer Memberships to another individual within your organisation, on two (2) occasions, without charge, upon providing prior notification to the Society and agreement thereof.
5. The Society’s Values and Policies
5.1 You agree to uphold the Society’s values and abide by its policies.
5.2 You agree to follow, uphold and promote the Society’s Charter.
5.3 You acknowledge that failure to abide by the Society’s values, policies or misuses Membership benefits could result in Your expulsion.
6. Event Access & Bookings
6.1 By booking or attending any Society event, you agree to be bound by these Membership Terms and all relevant Society policies.
6.2 Depending on your Membership level, some events are included in your Membership; others may incur additional fees. All bookings are subject to availability and are confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis, as events have a limited capacity and You are required to book to attend.
6.3 A booking is confirmed upon, receipt of an email confirmation.
6.4 The Society may amend event content, speakers, or timings at its discretion. Events may be rescheduled or cancelled, in which case you may be offered a revised date, a transfer to another event.
6.5 For Flagship Dinner table bookings over £1,000 (or equivalent currency) outside of Team Memberships and more than eight (8) weeks away, the Society may accept a 50% deposit with the balance payable eight (8) weeks prior to the date of the event.
7. Event Participation Rules
7.1 You and your guests, are expected to behave respectfully, professionally, and in line with the Society’s values and Member Charter.
7.2 Overly assertive ‘selling’ at events, is not permitted, or expected by other guests, and You and any guests you bring are required to both respect and implement this.
7.3 Discrimination, harassment, or other inappropriate conduct will not be tolerated. The Society reserves the right to remove You, or any of Your guests who breaches this obligation, without refund or compensation.
8. Event Cancellation Policy
8.1 For event tickets purchased independently of a Team Membership:
8.1.1.1. If you cancel with at least 2 weeks’ notice, a 30% administrative fee will apply.
8.1.1.2. If you cancel with less than 2 weeks’ notice, the full ticket price remains payable and is non-refundable.
8.2. For event tickets purchased independently of a Team Membership for a regional Flagship Conference and/or Dinner:
8.2.1.1. With at least 2 months’ notice: 30% administration fee applies.
8.2.1.2. With less than 2 months’ notice: 100% of the ticket price remains payable.
8.3 Free Member events do not incur a fee, but cancellation or non-attendance may impact your eligibility for future events.
8.4. Where the Society has to reschedule an event, You will be offered the choice of attendance at the rescheduled event.
9. Event Media usage
9.1 The Society or its chosen suppliers may take photographs, video, or audio recordings at any events. These may be used for promotional purposes, both online and in print.
9.2 You acknowledge, and shall ensure that any guests you invite acknowledge, that The Society shall own all intellectual property rights (including copyright) in any photographs, audio, or video recordings taken at events.
9.3 You and your guests consent to the use of such material for The Society’s marketing and promotional purposes, and waive any moral rights in relation to such content to the extent permitted by law.
9.4 By attending an event, you grant permission for your image, voice, or likeness to be used unless you notify us in writing at least 24 hours before the event.
9.5 All such media is the property of the Society and may be used without further notice or approval unless explicitly opted out.
10. Allergies & Dietary Requirements
10.1 You must inform the Society of any dietary needs or life-threatening allergies at least twenty one days (21) before any event which You are attending.
10.2 The Society shall seek to pass on to the providers of the event, any allergies, or dietary requirements that You notify the Society of, but You acknowledge that the Society cannot guarantee to accommodate Your dietary needs and is not liable for the failings, of the providers, or their contractors to follow Your dietary wishes, or allergies. In the case of serious allergies, You acknowledge that You will make the staff of the event providers aware of any such allergies.
10.3 You and Your guests are responsible for carrying Your own, or their own medication (such as an EpiPens).
11. Limitation of Liability
11.1 Save where excluded by law, You acknowledge that the Society is not liable for personal property loss or injuries at any events.
11.2 You must disclose life-threatening allergies or conditions in advance, and also make the venues of the events aware upon your arrival.
12. Use of the Society’s Branding
12.1 Members may use official Society badges and branding only in accordance with published guidelines. The Society may revoke branding rights at any time in case of misuse or reputational risk.
13. Late Payments & Charges
13.1 If You fail to pay a Booking fee by the due date, You will become liable to pay a £40 administration fee and interest (or equivalent currency), and interest will accrue on the outstanding amount at a rate of 8% above the Bank of England base rate.
13.2 Direct Debits require 7 days’ written notice to cancel.
13.3 Reinstatement of Membership requires settlement of all outstanding fees.
14. Data Protection & Privacy
14.1 The Society shall comply with UK GDPR and act as a data processor when managing Member events.
14.2 You must handle any shared data responsibly and are liable for any misuse.
14.3 You may opt out of post-event group emails. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
14.4 The attendee list may be shared with attendees or partners solely for event delivery purposes in line with our Privacy Policy.
15 Governing Law and Jurisdiction
These terms and conditions are agreement are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and You submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
