There is a momentum to the continuing domination of our lives by technology that seems unstoppable.
Unstoppable in its ubiquity in our lives, unstoppable in its stock market value, and unstoppable in its hubris as tech billionaires aim for the moon, the White House, global peace and even recent suggestions from Mark Zuckenberg that Facebook can take over from churches.
It’s not surprising that such momentum has built. Technology has intertwined itself with modern life to such a degree that it truly is impossible to imagine a life without it.
To date, the benefits of this tech revolution have so overshadowed the drawbacks that even the most cynical observer would feel churlish pointing them out.
But it does feel that the signals, some still weak, starting to come from consumers and the marketing industry should be alerting us to a coming point of change in the balance of power.
