Member Interview with Olivia Dunbar

Olivia Bunbar

We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Olivia Dunbar, Events Marketing and PR Assistant, Digital Health and Care Innovation Centre

What’s your golden rule?

Show up with enthusiasm - it’s contagious, and it makes a real difference in how people connect with you, your message, and your work!

Who has been your biggest influence?

There isn’t one particular person I’d say is my biggest influence, but rather the collective expertise and support of my colleagues at DHI. Their depth of knowledge, commitment to innovation, and people‑focused approach to work have shaped how I think and operate. Being surrounded by leaders who balance creativity with purpose has pushed me to grow, stay curious, and bring more intention into everything I do

What is your most hated business expression?

"It’s just a quick social post"

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

One of my smartest ideas was recognising an opportunity to grow the #DigiInventors Challenge through strategic partnership. At an external event, I initiated a conversation with the keynote speaker which ultimately led to securing Scottish Women’s Football as our official Question Partner for 2025. It was a small moment of initiative that created a big shift - strengthening the programme’s visibility, relevance and national reach. For me, it highlighted the power of being proactive in the right moments and trusting your instinct when you spot a connection worth pursuing.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

Jo Bird is a leader I really admire. I’ve followed her career since her Gymshark days, and her growth, confidence and ability to evolve her role over time really inspires me. Even from a distance, she shows what’s possible when you back yourself and stay open to new opportunities.

What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?

I wouldn’t call myself a marketing leader yet, my focus right now is on growing into one. I’m building the confidence, judgement and strategic skills that will help me lead in the future!

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

I’m always looking to learn, connect with new people and be around others who inspire me. The Marketing Society gives me that space to keep growing and stay curious.

Why does marketing matter to you?

Marketing matters to me because it’s ultimately about people, understanding them, engaging them and communicating something in a way that genuinely resonates.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

I love hiking and camping & I have a dog called Juno (purely because I loved the soundtrack to the film)
