We are delighted to bring you a Fellows Interview with Ritchie Mehta, Founder, School of Marketing
The Marketing Society Fellowship is our highest and most prestigious accolade awarded to outstanding marketing leaders who have achieved significant success in the markets they’ve worked in and made an active contribution to The Marketing Society and our industry more broadly.
What’s your golden rule?
It used to be about treating people how you want to be treated. Now, it’s about treating people how they want to be treated, by respecting their views, their diversity, and what makes them different.
Who has been your biggest influence?
Paul Polman, for proving that purpose and profit aren’t competing forces. He’s shown what it truly means to lead with conviction and conscience.
What is your most hated business expression?
“Low-hanging fruit.” It kills ambition. I’d rather reach for the higher branches, they’re where the real growth and learning happen.
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Turning mentoring into a scalable movement through The School of Marketing. We transformed what was once a privilege for the few into accessible guidance for the many.
What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?
How to keep the human spirit alive in the age of AI, ensuring technology amplifies empathy rather than replaces it.
Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?
It’s where community meets curiosity. The Society fuels collective intelligence, connecting people who don’t just want to do better marketing, but be better marketers.
Why does marketing matter to you?
Because marketing shapes the stories the world tells itself. Done well, it can shift cultures, open doors, and make people believe in what’s possible.
What do you think the biggest challenge in marketing will be in 2026
Balancing precision with purpose. As data, AI, and automation dominate, the brands that win will be those that stay deeply human.
Tell us something that’s not on your CV
For every success, accomplishment, or accolade, there have been many more things that didn’t go my way. It’s those moments, not the highlights, that have truly shaped who I am.
