We are delighted to bring you a Fellow interview with Rachel Eyre, who was recently honoured as a Fellow of The Marketing Society 2023.
What’s your golden rule - at work and in life?
Hire people who are smart and nice and treat them well
Who has been your biggest influence?
There have been so many people who have influenced me through my life and career, but recently my biggest inspiration has been my Grandpa. He has gone through and overcome so many challenges and tragedies, yet remains the most resilient, positive person who always chooses to find joy and happiness no matter what he has been going through. I think that is a really good lesson for us all.
What is your most hated business expression?
‘Let’s take this offline’
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Selling manure from my friend’s horse to my elderly neighbours who all had big gardens and wanted to use it as compost.
Which leader do you admire most and why?
I would have to say Jacinda Ardern, the former Prime Minister of New Zealand. I have so much respect for her authenticity, her ability and her willingness to stand up for what she believes in.
What keeps you up at night as a marketing leader?
I worry that we aren’t training and developing our marketers to have the confidence or fact-base to articulate the impact our work has on business and brand performance, and that we may end up selling ourselves short.
Why is being part of the Marketing Society important for your career?
It gives you access to a diverse group of brilliant people, some at the start of their senior marketing careers, some towards the end, with fascinating perspectives often different to your own and the opportunity to learn from them as well as from all the tools, events and conversations that The Marketing Society facilitates.
Tell us something that isn't on your CV
I have twice auditioned – unsuccessfully – to be on Mastermind.
