Scotland: St Andrew's Day Dinner 2019

Thursday 28 November

Sheraton Grand Hotel, 28 November, 6:30pm to 1am

We’re delighted to announce that our annual St Andrew’s Day Dinner, sponsored by Scottish Government and Edrington, will take place on Thursday 28 November at Sheraton Grand Hotel, Edinburgh.

As one of our flagship events, our St Andrew’s Day Dinner is a key date in the Marketing Society calendar and always makes for a memorable evening.

Former BBC Radio Four/Radio Scotland presenter Clare English will host this year's Dinner, which is themed around A Celebration of Scotland.

Former BBC Radio Four/ Radio Scotland presenter Clare now regularly leads public discussions and hosts events across a diverse range of sectors. Her passions are sharing her communications and presentation skills to support education, mental health and wellbeing.  She has knowledge and experience over a wide range of specialist areas including politics, Europe and identity, news and current affairs, mental health, arts, culture, science/technology and food. Clare is a Non-Executive Board Member of Women’s Enterprise Scotland.

Clare will be joined by our guest speaker David Duke MBE, founder and CEO of Street Soccer Scotland, a non-profit social enterprise that uses football to help create positive change in the lives of socially disadvantaged adults and young people.

David has grown to be widely admired with his social entrepreneurship skills and inspirational personality, he has experienced first-hand the problems that face the people that his organisation works with and helps on a daily basis. This alone makes him one of the best placed people to inspire, deliver and advise on social inclusion programmes that use sport as a vehicle for change.

He is a well-known face, and voice, in his sector and is recognised as an authority on sport and social change. David is a regular contributor at the international Doha Goals Forum and has been a speaker at other global events including TEDx, Beyond Sport Global Summit and SEWF. David is also Global Ambassador for the Homeless World Cup organisation, an Ambassador for Charity Quarriers, is an Advisory Board Member for UNICEF (Scotland).

Named as The Sunday Times ‘Change Maker’ of the Year in 2012 and a CNN Hero in 2016, David has also been recognised by both Glasgow Caledonian University and Edinburgh’s Queen Margaret University which awarded him an Honorary Doctorate for his work in his field. David was awarded an MBE in the 2018 New Years Honours List.

We’re also delighted to be joined by one of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival’s biggest acts, Rob Broderick, aka Abandoman – one of the best hip hop musical comedians.

Using his trademark blend of audience interaction and razor-sharp improvisation, Abandoman will take guests on a magical journey, transforming the audience’s likes, loathes and daydreams into hit songs and captivating tales.

He’s one of the standout stars of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a string of sell-out shows. Most recently returning in 2019 with his hit show: Abandoman: Road to Coachella. We're excited to have him entertaining guests at this year's St Andrew's Day Dinner.

We’ll recognise Scotland’s top employer brands when we announce our Employer Brand of the Year winners. We’ll also be awarding our Fellows and Honorary Fellows who have made a significant contribution to The Marketing Society and our industry in general.

As with last year’s event we will be encouraging people to participate in the Scottish Government’s #makesomeonesday campaign, make sure you check out the video here and have a think how you can make someone’s day.

As one of our most popular events of the year, we expect this year’s dinner to be a sell-out event so early booking is advised.
