But perhaps more terrifying is that the home can be even less safe.

A transgender child is twice as likely to contemplate suicide if their parents don’t accept them when they come out.

So the family has much more power than the trolls.

Trouble is, a lot of parents just aren’t equipped to handle this life-changing moment.

Not knowing who to turn to, they search for advice on Google. But many parents don’t know the right language to use to find organisations like Mermaids UK who can offer life-saving support.

And even worse, they are confronted by a wealth of misleading, hateful, anti-trans content in their search results – served up by Google’s algorithm.
