Ofcom report: TV is blooming

Ofcom’s new Communications Market Report 2013 is a must-read if you are in media. This is proper research and is packed with positive news for TV.

It is jam-packed with facts and insights which set out the reality of media in the UK – and it shows that TV is thriving like never before.

You’ll find all the key numbers; from the role of TV in the living room, smart TVs, Live TV and VOD, to time-shifting, multi-screening, Twitter and TV, online TV revenues and broadcaster investment.

James Thickett, Ofcom’s Director of Research, said: 'Our research shows that increasingly families are gathering in the living room to watch TV just as they were in the 1950s – but now delivered on bigger, wider and more sophisticated sets….Just a few years ago, we would be talking about last night’s TV at work or at school. Now, we’re having those conversations live while watching TV – using social media, text and instant messaging.'

On the off-chance that you haven’t got round to reading this weighty report in its entirety, our lovely partners Thinkbox have pulled together all the main TV points for you in handy summary form.
