How to make blogs pay

HUBPAGES, FOUNDED in 2006, just gained its millionth page. It’s a site where users create individual pages in the style of in-depth magazine articles about any subject, ranging from ‘how to make your own yogurt’ through to ‘what’s the best cat food’.

The site generates revenues each time a page is viewed, via Google’s advertising program, allocating 60% of the proceeds to the author and 40% to HubPages itself.

Hubbers can earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars a month and retain full ownership of everything they create – which is a far cry from social networking models.

HubPages.com is now among America’s most visited websites.
