We all have unwanted stuff that we would prefer to have reused rather than go to landfill. But what if it were easier to donate all of your unwanted items to the charity of your choice?
That possibility is now here. Gone for Good is a new smartphone app that connects people with stuff they want to get rid of with local charity shops that need items to sell.
You can choose the charity that you would like your goods to go from the local options the app identifies and they will send someone to pick it up.
Gone for Good is launching in Manchester this month with plans to launch in London and the rest of the UK early in 2016.
Mark Charnock, Managing Director of Gone for Good said, ‘Our goal is to increase the amount of money raised by retail charities through goods donations. For example the app will support more frequent donations, from a greater number of donors and from people who in the past have been less likely to donate. Our goals are also to improve the profitability of retail charities by helping to improve their efficiency and also to increase the levels of re-use of household goods to minimise waste going to landfill. We are also looking to increase levels of engagement of younger people with charities through the use of digital technology.'
The team has been inspired by apps like Just Eat, Uber and Traveline in their work to develop Gone for Good.
Marketing support needed:
Gone for Good is currently marketing the app through two key partner groups: the charities signed up to participate and through corporate supporters. They are providing the charities with marketing materials they can use to encourage their customers and existing donors to donate goods through the app. And they are providing their corporate partners with marketing collateral for engaging their employees and other stakeholders.
Corporate partners are motivated to engage their employees because the app can track the donations made to charity by their employees, which the companies can use to support their CSR reports.
Gone for Good would love to get your help with improving their communications both with corporate partners and to the smart phone owning public at large. They want to make sure that every one of the country's estimated 40 million smart phone users knows how easy it is to donate their unwanted items and the difference their donations will make to improving the world.
