Fellow The Marketing Society

THE GLOBAL LEADERSHIP MENTORING PROGRAMME

At the beginning of 2024, we launched an important pilot mentoring initiative for The Marketing Society community in England, bringing together the extensive experience of our Fellows to mentor today's and tomorrow’s leaders. Mentoring is a recognised way of building leadership capabilities and another way in which the Society is working to support Marketers as good general business leaders too.

Nominated Members of The Marketing Society had an exclusive opportunity to benefit from the experience of a select group of Fellows (including Peter Duffy CEO of JustEat, Lindsey Clay CEO of Thinkbox, Mark Given CMO of Sainsburys, David Wheldon OBE, Martin Glenn, Rory Sutherland, Helen Tupper CEO Amazing If and Tess Alps NED Channel 4).

Across two cohorts, 60 mentees and 60 Fellows met throughout the year, and we’ve received very positive feedback from both mentors and mentees about their experience. Thank you to our hugely experienced Fellows community for their support with this initiative.

Our Global Leadership Mentoring Programme for The Marketing Society Members in 2025 is now full. Keep you eye on emails in case this changes.

How it works

✔️ Mentoring is entirely free of charge.

✔️ Mentors are experienced, expert marketing leaders and Members of The Marketing Society, who provide complementary skills and aren’t competitors.

✔️ Mentees have access to four one-hour mentoring sessions in total from four different mentors (4 hours total across 6 months).

✔️ Sessions are predominantly virtual but to be agreed between mentor & mentee, location dependant.

✔️ Mentees are expected to complete all four sessions across a period of 6 months.

✔️ Places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, as long as the below criteria is met.

Criteria

✔️ You may nominate yourself, in which case you must be a Member.

✔️ If you are nominating a team member, they must be a Member.

✔️ This is a global programme that is predominantly run virtually and members from all locations are welcome to participate.

✔️ In the event that we are over-subscribed, we reserve the right to limit the number of nominations from any one company.

✔️ Mentees must complete all four sessions in order for the organisation to be able to participate in future programmes.

Please note that this programme gives the mentee access to four different mentors. Each mentor will provide each mentee with just one hour-long mentoring session. It is up to mentees to reach out to mentors promptly, to schedule their session with each of them. By nominating yourself, you agree to fully participate in the programme. By nominating a team member, you have first checked they agree to fully commit to the programme.

Steps

  1. 1 January 2025 - Nominations officially open until 31 January
  2. February – Successful nominees contacted and confirmed
  3. February – Mentor/mentee matching takes place
  4. March – Mentees receive mentor details
  5. March – September – Sessions take place

Nominations for 2025 are currently closed as we are at capacity.

Guidelines

Please find here our Mentoring Guidelines, which you should ensure you have read thoroughly, in particular noting the sections on confidentiality and on cancellation and exit, and a mentoring framework, which is not mandatory to follow but might provide some useful guidance and prompts. Both these documents will also be provided to the Mentors. There are also some FAQs.
