We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Yolande Battell, EVP

What’s your golden rule?

Self-belief is the spark—and it’s contagious.

Who has been your biggest influence?

My dad gave me my challenger spirit. He taught me that even the most established rules can be questioned—and sometimes rewritten. He got himself a new job at 70, just because he was bored of being retired. That mindset stuck.

What is your most hated business expression?

“Reach out.” Unless we’re stranded at sea, I’m probably just… emailing.

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

Smartest business idea? Still waiting for it.....

Which leader do you admire most and why?

Karen Blackett. A true trailblazer—she’s opened doors, raised standards, and redefined what leadership looks like in our industry while remaining grounded and human.

What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?

How do we use our platforms to open more doors—especially for those who’ve historically been underrepresented?

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

To learn, to give back and to stay connected with others who care about making a difference.

Why does marketing matter to you?

Because ultimately it’s about people. Understanding them, reaching them, moving them.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

I once made Tom Hardy cry. All in a day’s work. True story.
