Member Interview with Rasha Abu Shamaa

Rasha Abu Shamaa

We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Rasha Abu Shamaa, Content Leader

What’s your golden rule?

Lead with purpose, communicate with Empathy

Who has been your biggest influence?

I’m always fascinated by women leaders in specific and the balance the bring into their positions and organizations, on a regional level I was influenced by the founders Mumzworld, Mona Ataya & Leena Khalil and the way they were able to build such a powerful platform despite the challenges in a new occupied domain at the time, and the opportunities they opened for many women to be part of the conversation.

What is your most hated business expression?

Let's fix the low hanging fruits (but only when the foundation needs immediate attention)

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

Building a community of experts for an e-commerce website.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

One leader I deeply admire is Simon Sinek. His philosophy of ‘Start With Why’ reshaped how I think about leadership and communication. I’ve always believed that teams perform best when they understand purpose, not just targets. His emphasis on empathy, clarity, and servant leadership resonates with how I approach leading teams: by listening first, communicating transparently, and aligning everyone around a shared mission. What I admire most is how he translates complex human behavior into actionable, practical leadership insights that make people feel seen and valued.

What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?

What’s on my mind most right now is how to build meaningful brand communication in an environment that changes faster than ever. Between AI’s rise, content fatigue, and shifting consumer expectations, the challenge is to keep brands both human and relevant. I’m also thinking about how to empower marketing teams to think strategically, not just execute, because strong communication starts internally before it ever reaches the audience.

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

I’ve been following the marketing society for a long time, and find the events, content and members interesting and adding lot’s of value to the industry. I would love to be part of the society to network, learn, collaborate and empower where I can.

Why does marketing matter to you?

Coming from an engineering and product background, I’ve always been drawn to systems that work. But what I learned early on is that even the best product or idea means little if people can’t connect with it. That’s where marketing comes in, it turns logic into emotion and purpose into trust.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

I’m driven by curiosity and human stories, it’s what shapes how I lead and communicate. I’ve always believed great strategy starts with empathy and understanding people. Outside of work, I recharge through long beach walks and cycling, both help me reset, reflect, and come back with clearer ideas.
