Member interview with Paul Viviers

We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Paul Viviers, Lead Evangelist and Head of Sales and Marketing

What’s your golden rule?

My golden rule is to always put the customer first. By understanding what they need, we can create experiences that make everyone happy

Who has been your biggest influence?

My biggest influence has been Sangram Vajre. He showed me how creative and impactful marketing can be. His passion for the field inspired me to dive deeper, always think outside the box, and never stop learning. Thanks to him, I believe in the power of good ideas and teamwork.

What is your most hated business expression?

I really dislike the phrase "synergy." It’s often used to sound impressive, but it usually just means people working together. I prefer straightforward language that clearly explains ideas without unnecessary jargon.

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

One of my smartest business ideas was to differentiate my first business which focused on Project Portfolio Management from our competitors by taking to market an integrated platform which included technology, process and learning.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

As a South African I have to say Nelson Mandela. He showed incredible strength and kindness. Even after facing so many challenges, he worked to bring people together and create peace. His ability to forgive and lead with his heart inspires me to be a better person and leader.

What keeps you up at night as a marketing leader?

I often worry about whether we’re connecting with our customers the right way. I want to make sure our messages are clear and truly reach the people we care about.

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

Being part of The Marketing Society will help me learn new things, meet other marketing friends, and grow in my job. It will give me the tools and support to do my best and reach my goals.

Why does marketing matter to you?

Marketing matters to me because it helps people discover things they love and need. It’s like telling a story that connects businesses with their customers, making both happier and stronger together.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

I make a special effort to visit and spend time with elderly people. I love listening to their stories and bringing a smile to their faces. This helps me stay kind and patient, qualities that I also use in my marketing work and life.
