We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Paul Armstrong, Senior Marketing Manager, Summertown Interiors

What’s your golden rule?

Keep it simple for the end user

Who has been your biggest influence?

In recent years it has been Ben Francis, he didn’t start Gymshark to follow trends, he was the audience. He understood the fitness community because he was part of it, and he built a brand that spoke with people, not at them. He kept it simple!

What is your most hated business expression?

Business as usual isn’t always right—‘we’ve always done it this way’ isn’t a strategy.

What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?

An app that builds your perfect holiday in seconds, just input your ideal temperature, budget, travel time, interests, and whether you’ve got kids or not etc... No more endless searching or review-scrolling, just tailored trips, ready to book in seconds. As all of the above work in parallel to each other.

Which leader do you admire most and why?

David Attenborough is a leader I admire because he’s proof that calm, clear communication can make a change. He’s spent a lifetime educating and inspiring global audiences not with force, but with passion, integrity, and unwavering purpose. His ability to tell powerful stories about our planet, while driving real environmental change, shows the true impact of using your voice for good. That blend of wisdom, humility, and influence is what real leadership looks like to me.

What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?

What is next? How to stay ahead of the curve? Always switched on! Design for today build for tomorrow.

Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?

Being part of The Marketing Society matters to me because it’s more than a network, it’s a space to learn, grow, and exchange ideas with like-minded peers. It fuels my development and keeps me inspired by the bold thinking and real-world insights of industry leaders.

Why does marketing matter to you?

Marketing is important to me because, honestly, the world would be very bland without it. It brings colour, creativity, and connection to everything we do. I love that it blends logic with emotion, strategy with storytelling and that it gives us the power to shape how people feel, think, and engage. It’s not just about selling it’s about meaning, impact, and making ideas come alive. It creates a sense of community.

Tell us something that’s not on your CV

Family comes first— loving dad to Myla and Blake, loving husband to Lindsey.
