We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Mays Elansari, Regional Marketing Director, EMEA, Ex Subway
What’s your golden rule?
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.
Who has been your biggest influence?
My mother, by far. She’s the most inspiring person I know... her kindness, resilience, creativity, and persistence are unwavering. She was effortlessly great at everything, making even the hardest things look easy and fun. From an early age, her belief in me was instrumental in building my confidence, and her support was endless. There was never a challenge too big or a problem too hard that she didn’t encourage me to tackle. She taught me that everything was possible.
What is your most hated business expression?
How long is a piece of string?
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Investing in myself. As leaders, we rarely prioritize ourselves yet it's the most valuable long-term investment we can make.
Which leader do you admire most and why?
Dame Vera Stephanie "Steve" Shirley for her determination, intelligence, creativity, wit, and strength... qualities that truly stood out when I heard her story at the 2024 Changemaker Conference. She not only achieved incredible success but also paved the way for other women to grow and lead. We need to celebrate more trailblazers like her.
What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?
The separation of brand and performance marketing, when in reality, they are two sides of the same coin. True impact and sustainable growth come from balancing short-term sales activation with long-term brand building. You can’t have one without the other.
Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?
Being part of The Marketing Society has been a game-changer. For so long, I thought I didn’t have time, but the truth is, I wasn’t making the time. Connecting with like-minded leaders, learning from inspirational voices both in and beyond our industry, is fundamental for growth. In just a short time, The Marketing Society has already accelerated mine.
Why does marketing matter to you?
It’s a force for change. It’s about adding value, driving growth, and making a real impact, not just for businesses, but for people, communities, and the industry as a whole. I believe in being part of that change for the better.
Tell us something that’s not on your CV
At school, my artwork was selected and exhibited at the Royal College of Art UK!
