We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Kathryn Sloane, Executive Managing Director APAC MEA, SGK
What’s your golden rule?
I will act now (lovingly nicked from Og Mandino)
Who has been your biggest influence?
My Dad - from actor, to school principal, to Canon in the CoE - he is the most gifted storyteller I've ever known.
What is your most hated business expression?
Let's open the kimono. (It's really creepy.)
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Tweeter. An app that allows you to identify birds from the sounds they make.
Which leader do you admire most and why?
Melanie Perkins, CEO of Canva. Melanie saw that the role of design was going to be very different in the future, and built a business model and culture to embrace this. As a fellow Australian, I appreciate her can-do attitude and ability to articulate a clear vision in a no-nonsense way; "empowering the world to design".
What keeps you up at night as a marketing leader?
Late night conference calls (comes with the territory of working globally and a hunger to contribute)
Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?
To ensure I am seeing & stepping beyond the echo-chamber of my company and those of my clients; to open up to different industries, players and ways of working.
Why does marketing matter to you?
I can't remember a time when it didn't - and what a bland world mine would be without it! Marketing is my growth engine, my matchmaking and my storytelling. Marketing connects people at every level of a company, inside and out.
Tell us something that’s not on your CV
I like to take up a different sport every 2 years... In the past 10, I've committed to mountain biking, pole dancing, gravity pilates, African dance, kick boxing and yoga.
