We are delighted to bring you a Member Interview with Erris de Stacpoole, Public Relations Communications Specialist, Accenture Song
What’s your golden rule?
Big or small, every story, message, communications, needs stand up to scrutiny and be worth sharing.
Who has been your biggest influence?
I’ve been influenced by many great bosses and leaders. Each shaped my career in different ways, often without realising the impact they had. Beyond that, I’m inspired by people who set their own bar - Caitlin Moran, Jess Morgan and Amelia Earhart.
What is your most hated business expression?
I can’t bear “low-hanging fruit” because it quietly lowers the bar. Also, no one needs the visceral imagery of dangling fruit.
What’s the smartest business idea you’ve ever had?
Many years ago, I kept a list of invention ideas, from a glass toaster (to see when your toast was done) to biodegradable chewing gum. The gum topped the list because it’s an everyday behaviour, happens at massive scale, and solves a very real, very fixable problem: getting stuck to the ground.
What leader do you admire most and why?
Chaka Sobhani, global chief creative officer. Creative legend, energy off the charts, and super smart.
What is on your mind the most right now as a marketing leader?
I’ll always wave the flag for creativity. We’re at an inflection point where it's being undervalued, yet it’s the most important capability to scale - not necessity something you buy outright, but something you build into how all work gets done. APAC feels very exciting right now, it’s a dynamic, digital-first region where creativity is essential to how culture is constantly being reinvented.
Why is being part of The Marketing Society important for your career?
It’s a opportunity to learn from some of the smartest professionals in our industry. When communities come together, learning accelerates. Strong communities set high standards - they push back on lazy thinking and hype, and keep you anchored in what actually works.
This is my second year with The Marketing Society, staying close to a group of like-minded people operating right at the heart of our industry’s evolution is important. At a deeper level, community matters because industries don’t evolve through lone voices - they evolve through conversation.
Why does marketing matter to you?
I’ve always believed good marketing can change the world. Seeing your work out in the world, shaping culture and playing a small role in broader conversations is incredibly powerful. At its heart, marketing is a community of people who see the world differently - a profession without limits, where creativity and communication connect people and grows businesses.
