Your industry needs you! Race with us for Stand Up To Cancer

For the fifth year running, we are proud to be joining forces with Stand Up To Cancer and Mark Evans to host The Marketing Industry Sprintathon 2025. It’s the 10th anniversary of the Sprintathon concept - so do come and celebrate with us!!

Boots, HSBC, Mondelez, Thinkbox and VCCP are among the many who’ve already signed up – isn’t it about time you did too?

All funds raised will be split between Cancer Research UK's Stand Up To Cancer campaign funding life-saving research to help beat cancer faster and The Marketing Society to support the rising talent of the future.

What’s it all about?

it’s a bit like your old school sports day but much more fun and crucially it’s about our industry coming together to give back by raising much needed funds for Stand up to Cancer.

How can you get involved?

Get together a team of four to take part in a 400m relay (4 x 100m) and you’ll collectively race with other teams to cover the distance of a marathon. You don't have to be an experienced runner, it’s all about doing your bit for charity with fellow members, colleagues and friends. You literally only need to run 100m each but it's a day of camaraderie, celebration and determination to raise money for a good cause.  Watch the highlights reel of last year’s event below to get a feel for the day.

How much has been raised?

Since the very first Sprintathon, a whopping £960,000 has been raised. This year we want to exceed £1 million - with your help and participation we know we can get there!

This is why its important:

Why this is an important cause:

JOINING US ON THE DAY

Patrick and Sue both started funding and volunteering for Cancer Research UK (CRUK) following the deaths of their respective spouses from cancer.

Patrick’s wife, Pam, died from bowel cancer in 2007 and Sue’s husband, Philip, died from prostate cancer in 2009.

Sue was living on Oxfordshire and Patrick in Sheffield and they met up occasionally in connection with their volunteer roles as Cancer Campaigns Ambassadors. Following a CRUK lobby day in Parliament in July 2016 they went for a drink after the event to a pub just cross the road from Downing Street, arranged to meet up later that month and four months later they married - definitely a case of volunteering with benefits. They continue to volunteer across CRUK, continuing as Campaigns Ambassadors, being involved in focus and strategy groups, research funding panels and as media volunteers, featuring in campaigns and advertisements across social and print media, along with radio and TV. They regularly speak at CRUK events for staff and the public and at research conferences.

Patrick and Sue Sprintathon 2025

As well as volunteering they now combine their fundraising efforts by undertaking a joint annual challenge, involving combinations of cycling, running and hiking. Between them they have now raised over £150,000 for CRUK. They remain as passionate as ever about research, driven by past memories and future hopes. Their aim is just to try to make a difference, help improve outcomes for cancer patients and their families and support CRUK’s aim to bring about a world where people live longer better lives, free from the fear of cancer.

Please get a team together and come and join Patrick, Sue and us on the track!
