Global Head of Olympics, Airbnb

Aoife is the Global Head of the Olympic & Paralympic partnership team at Airbnb. In this role she oversees the vision, strategy and operations for Airbnb’s largest, landmark, 9.5 year global partnership. This partnership will drive economic empowerment opportunities for millions of hosts, athletes and local communities during the next five Olympic and Paralympic Games. Aoife’s vision and strategy with the Olympic & Paralympic partnership was driven by the opportunity to amplify Airbnb’s mission to ​help create a world where anyone can belong anywhere ​ and 21st Century company goals. By combining Airbnb’s global community with that of the Olympic and Paralympic movement across 206 countries, this deeply integrated partnership will drive sustainability, positive economic and social impact in cities across the world.

From her role as General Counsel Airbnb, Europe Middle East and Africa, to a founding leader of Airbnb’s global Experiences business, Aoife has been a key initiator and driver in the rapid expansion of Airbnb’s business. During her tenure, Aoife pioneered and expanded regulations for home sharing, enabling rapid expansion; EMEA became Airbnb’s largest region, representing 60% of its global business. Today, Airbnb consists of over 7M accommodations, available in over 200 countries around the world.

In 2016, Aoife became a founding leader of Airbnb’s Experiences business, leading Business Affairs and Social Impact. In this role she defined and built the operational risk strategy, which enabled a successful launch in 2016 with 500 handcrafted activities in 12 cities. This led to rapid global expansion with 50,000 Experiences in thousands of cities around the world. In addition, she was the founder and visionary behind Airbnb’s Social Impact Experiences, benefiting non-profit organizations, which today include over 600 non-profits globally. This work has connected guests to meaningful causes and has raised over $7 million for non-profit organizations. As an early leader in the most disruptive industries over the past 15 years, Aoife’s expertise includes travel and hospitality (Airbnb), telecommunications (Skype), music and e-commerce (Apple). Her passion is combining innovation and disruption with opportunity for economic and social impact. Aoife is a qualified UK and Ireland attorney and arbitrator, having earned her Bachelor’s of Civil Law (BCL) at University College Dublin, Ireland. She subsequently earned a Masters in Business at the University of Montpellier, France and attended the executive business programme at INSEAD.
