The Marketing Society Global Conference Changemakers: Impact
This year our theme is IMPACT: the very essence of what being a marketer is all about. We (marketers) create value and in order to do that we need impact.
Whether it’s impact on organisations, on society, resolving negative impacts or leading with personal impact; the influence and impact of a marketer is felt in every function of our businesses in the way we create value for not just our brands and our people but for society around us.
In our global conference we will explore the themes of impact through the stories and experiences of our speakers who will offer up new perspectives, creative ideas and revolutionary thinking that will help you do well, do good and set your true potential alight.

10.05 Your biggest competitor doesn’t exist yet. But don’t panic.
Dominque Rose Van Winther, CEO, Final Upgrade AI
What are the most effective use cases for AI for marketers? This session demystifies the current AI tsunami and explores several case studies with demos. Dominique will examine how AI will affect the CMO profile of the future, and why getting the best out of AI is 90% people and only 10% tech. 10.30 Take-home Bakery to leading UK Food-To-Go Retailer. Leadership lessons from Greggs
Roisin Currie, CEO, Greggs plc
Greggs has now beaten the likes of Tesco to become the UK’s second strongest brand with a AAA rating. CEO, Roisin Currie will share the growth pillars of this high street favourite and the crucial role marketing played in its transformation. Does Roisin’s background in HR make any difference to her leadership? We will explore the role of innovation too. The brand caused a sensation this year when they launched their 24-carat jewellery collection “Baked in Gold” during London Fashion Week. It sold out in hours. Retail is a ferocious marketplace, but in this session we learn how they manage to always take the ‘lead roll’.

11.50 How the extraordinary Dame Stephanie Shirley changed business
Dame Stephanie Shirley CH
Dame Stephanie ( Steve ) Shirley arrived in the UK aged 6 as part of the Kindertransport from Nazi Germany in 1939. She challenged sexual discrimination, social convention and the global software market. Dame Stephanie set up ‘Freelance Programmers’ in 1962 with £6 and for many years only employed women working from home. She was one of the first to sell computer software separately from hardware. By the time she sold her business in 2007 it was valued at over $3bn and employed 8,500 people. Now 91 she still works 25 hours a week.
12.00 More Disruptive than Digital: The Untapped Potential of the Post-Carbon Economy
Leo Rayman, CEO & Founder, Eden Labs and David Ferguson, Head of Net Zero Innovation, EDF
The impact of the transition to Net Zero goes way beyond the digital transformation. McKinsey estimates the global spending on physical assets alone in “The Great Transition” to sustainability will reach $275 trillion by 2050. It touches upon every aspect of our lives, from energy sources to food production, manufacturing processes, consumption patterns, and even our political choices. And it will open doors to new industries and extraordinary opportunities, which is great news for marketers. In the UK 30% of jobs posted on linkedin are Green Jobs. But contrary to what many think, in clean energy, it is China that is leading the world. Can we learn from them?
12.25 Share more. Feel good. Waste Less. How Olio uses behavioural models to help the $1trillion food waste problem
Tessa Clarke, Founder, Olio
One third of all food is wasted, and in a country like the UK, half of all food waste takes place in the home. The effect of this on the climate is devastating. Founder Tessa Clarke has already saved over 200mn food portions and has a target of 1bn users by 2030. The 2023 Veuve Cliquot Business Woman of the Year will explain how she developed the game changing neighbour-to-neighbour food-sharing app Olio and how it is driving behaviour change at scale. She will share the learnings and challenges they’ve experienced along the way and leave us with some provocative thoughts for the marketing industry.

Sinéad Burke, CEO of Tilting the Lens, and Nishma Patel Robb, Founder of Glittersphere

As an extraordinary changemaker, Sinéad emphasises her mission to transform accessibility and inclusion into “a movement, not a moment.” She works to amplify the voices of those who are often unheard or overlooked. Sinéad has engaged with schools, workplaces, government agencies, and even the White House to facilitate honest conversations and implement strategic changes aimed at moving society beyond “ableism” to disability justice. Her efforts focus on designing equitable and accessible pathways for everyone.

This talk invites participants to elevate their lives with intention, shaping their impact with courage, clarity, and authenticity.
14.20 Its Now Or Never. Elvis is in the building. How tech transforms experience brands.
Andrew McGuinness, Founder, Layered Reality

Andrew Carter, CEO, Chapel Down

Its growth story continues. But how do you manage the brand so performance continues to sparkle? We will find out, and also discover how many French drinkers now prefer “Chapelle En Bas” to their native champagne.
15.00 Mr Bates V The Post Office. The transformational power of a story of injustice. Well told.
Patrick Spencer, Former Producer, ITV / Natasha Bondy, Exec Producer, Mr Bates V The Post Office / Seema Misra, Former Sub PostMaster
Few dramas have touched the hearts and emotions of the British public more than Mr Bates V The Post Office. Even fewer have had so much effect on governments and institutions. At its heart it is a compelling story of the powerful and the powerless. And injustice. We discuss with its creators how and why it sparked widespread outcry across the nation; how it made people care; how it changed laws, and launched a criminal investigation. And we hear first hand from one of its victims. And we explore why storytelling can change things when everything else fails.

Feedback from our 2023 Global Conference
"The Conference content gets better and better in my mind as I get further away from it, because it has left me thinking about so many things."
"As ever a brilliant day, one which was as much about the conversations in the tearoom as it was about the stage. No one of us can ever be as good as all of us, and once again I was reminded that there are a lot of smart, useful people out there if we take the time to chat with them."
"What an inspiring, insightful and illuminating day The Marketing Society conference. Thoroughly enjoyed the variety of content and honest discussions on marketing, purpose, leadership and wellbeing."
"Days like today don’t come around very often…"
"An event full of energy and inspiration, with brilliant speakers discussing topics affecting marketing and other disciplines that we can learn from - including culture, innovation, purpose, uncertainty, AI, creativity (to name a few).. and of course why marketeers make great General Managers."
