Secrets of working on The Night Manager

Secrets of The Night Manager

Graphic design for television and film is a complex business, as revealed by the BBC in its new look at the design team’s work behind the scenes of The Night Manager. The series, which stars Tom Hiddleston, is an adaptation of a John le Carré novel set in 2011, with all graphic touchpoints painstakingly created to appear as they would have five years ago.

We learn how the team designed every single document in a sheath of papers with mindboggling attention to detail, how they designed logos for multiple banks, businesses and launderers and how even the UI design of a phone app had to be utterly faithful to its appearance, working with retina scans of Hiddleston’s eye. It’s a great insight to the minutiae of graphic design for a plot as complex as The Night Manager, and also manages to shoehorn in a fleeting shot of its lead character without his shirt on, so it’s a thumbs-up from all here at INT.
