One direction for confidence?

The weather has been the dominant story of the year so far with millions of people having an unsettling start to 2014.

Most economic forecasters are very positive about the outlook for the year with the coalition government keen for a feel-good factor to be widespread by next year’s election. December data saw consumers the most confident and financially active for many years.
 
Consumer confidence at year end was the best December measure since 2006 and 16 points up on 2012. In 2014 confidence looks set to rise further on the back of growth expected to be around 2.5%.
